Pop and Jazz in Context

The research field deals with the musical, technological and sociological areas of contemporary pop, rock and jazz music in the context of related fields such as film/video, literature, design or fashion.

Within this highly networked field, questions are raised about the development of new trends between subculture, mass culture and about connections between artistic levels of production and reception.

The research work is based on a diversity of methods (Cultural Studies, Science and Technology Studies STS, Actor-Network Theory ANT or the newly developing AMT – Actor-Media Theory) and a direct examination of the actors themselves. Research in the field of pop culture is orientated towards current topics, direct and communicative.

With pop and jazz in context, students and prospective researchers discover an area in which numerous relevant topics have not yet been researched. We are committed to gaining knowledge and actively involve interested parties in our national and international research networks, projects, workshops and conferences.
