About Us
The Institute of Design Research IDR is one of four institutes at the Bern Academy of the Arts HKB. It is the largest of its kind in the German-speaking world. Interdisciplinary teams analyse the various forms of designed communication in five research fields, one project field and one research group.

Partnerships
The Bern Academy of the Arts HKB is a member of the Swiss Design Network SDN, the national competence network of Swiss universities of applied sciences. IDR staff are involved in the German Society for Design Theory and Research DGTF and other national and international organisations. They also work as experts for the Swiss National Science Foundation SNSF, the German Research Foundation DFG and other research and educational institutions.
