Research
HKB has one of the largest and most successful Research divisions at any European arts university. Hundreds of projects have been realized here, resulting in publications, concerts, exhibitions and symposia that have attracted international attention and bring a great deal of added value to teaching at HKB.
For music, research on performance is of central importance. Projects of the Research area Interpretation have focused, for example, on old electric pianos, a Wagner tuba, current musical theater, famous pop sounds, gut strings, microtonal instruments and bass clarinets. See the special website hkb-interpretation.ch to find out more. By the way: We are the only arts university in Switzerland to offer our own doctoral program, in conjunction with the University of Bern: the Studies in the Arts.
