The Best Fight
Enzo Franzetti made this project in the context of the course «Forecasting» and the Y-Institute's annual theme «Future».
My project revolves around the analysis of various fights with the aim of predicting their outcomes. I have chosen a collection of the best moves and combos to create a choreography that represents the essence of the ultimate fight. Given the improbability of physically engaging in combat, I've chosen to interpret this through dance, collaborating with a skilled dancer. To me, both dancing and fighting share commonalities, requiring precise body control, spatial awareness, and rhythm, especially in disciplines like boxing.
For the predictive aspect, I've considered factors such as age, height, weight, reach, and fighters' records. I've gathered information from different types of fight videos, such as the intense matchup between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov. To structure my analysis, I've categorized movements into three main types: punching, grappling, and kicking. Each category encompasses specific actions like left jab, straight right for punching, head kick, leg kick for kicking, and single leg takedown, double leg takedown, judo hold for grappling. While watching each fight, I've noted the execution and success of each movement, determining which fighter emerged victorious.
I've applied the same methodology to videos focusing on pure grappling, Muay Thai, and Capoeira. The Capoeira video differs slightly, as the kicks may not always land. Now armed with this comprehensive data, I aim to test the predictability of upcoming fights. Additionally, I plan to select 3-4 of the most effective combos or moves to incorporate into the dance, offering an artistic interpretation of the dynamics observed in the world of fighting.
